MRCPCH Examinations in India

 

RCPCH

 

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), UK was created by Royal Charter in 1996. It plays a major role in postgraduate medical education and professional standards; setting syllabuses for postgraduate training in paediatrics, overseeing the training, running examinations, organising courses and conferences, issuing guidance and conduction research.

 

The college objectives are:

 

- Educate and examine those concerned with the health of children

- Advance the art and science of paediatrics

- Raise the standard of medical care to children

- Advance the education of the public in child health

 

The RCPCH is the sole authority responsible for all aspects of the Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) examination and its operations worldwide.

 

The MRCPCH Examination

 

MRCPCH is a UK and international examination in Paediatrics compromising 3 sections: MRCPCH Part 1, MRCPCH Part 2 and the MRCPCH Clinical Examination.

MRCPCH Part 1 is a written examination consisting of two papers, basic paediatrics and science of paediatrics.

MRCPCH Part 2 is also a written examination covering the application of knowledge and decision making.

The MRCPCH Clinical is a 10 station practical assessment.

Candidates who successfully complete all parts of the MRCPCH examinations are eligible to become Members of the Royal College.

 

Under the aegis of the IAP-RCPCH collaboration, it is now possible to apply for all 3 parts of the MRCPCH examinations in India.

The MRCPCH theory exams are being held in the following cities across India: Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.

MRCPCH Part 1 Timetable

Registration: 12:00 – 13:00

Paper One A: 13:00 – 15:30

Break: 15:30 – 16:30

Paper One B: 17:00 – 19:30

 

MRCPCH Part 2 Timetable

Registration: 12:00 – 13:00

Paper 1: 13:00 – 15:30

Break: 15:30 – 16:30

Paper 2: 17:00 – 19:30

Entrance requirements:

Candidates must hold a primary medical qualification.

Please note that it is not necessary to receive any UK based paediatric training in order to appear for the MRCPCH exams. Any Indian student granted the MBBS degree can apply for the exam.

 

Training:

The training for the Part 1 and Part 2 theory exams would be the conventional training received at any postgraduate course in paediatrics; there is no other special training required.

IAP is planning a training session for applicants for Clinical exam in December 2010 or January 2011 – we will update you on the same.

 

Resources:

Basic reading preparatory material for the exam include the conventional textbooks and reference books on Paediatrics related topics, which are generally used for any other Paediatric postgraduate curses.

Recognised preparatory material for the MRCPCH Part 1a and 1b and Part 2 written papers is the MRCPCH Mastercourse.

The MRCPCH degree conferred after completing the exams successfully in India will be the same as degree conferred in the UK and other MRCPCH Centres worldwide and will allow the qualified candidates to practice paediatrics in India, UK and other MRCPCH recognized countries.
